SEMINAR: "From bridge inspection toward population based structural health monitoring" - Dr. David Ester, Queen's University - Belfast

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is essential for bridge maintenance, as traditional inspections are infrequent and may not detect subsurface damage. However, SHM implementation faces challenges due to high costs and difficulty in obtaining damage-state data. Population-Based Structural Health Monitoring (PBSHM) addresses this issue by enabling data sharing among similar structures, requiring a reliable method to assess bridge similarity.
Dr. Ester has extensive experience in bridge design and inspection. In particular, his research at Queen's University has focused on identifying practical methods for data collection and how to use this data for decision-making.
